Family Overview

Each half term we'll email you a curriculum overview for the half term. This overview contains essential learning for the half term and key questions to discuss with your child.

Rhyme Time Challenges

Each half term we launch a rhyme time challenge with our children. We will always share this on Tapestry. We practice the rhyme, and previous rhymes, in class. Orally rehearsing and performing poems and rhymes can help children with their oracy skills. Our rhymes are available below.

Practice the rhyme at home and send a video of your child's performance on Tapestry. We'd love to see it.

Autumn 1 2025

The Gingerbread Man

Today the children listened to the story and joined in with the repeated phrases. They then drew what they remembered from the story and created some amazing drawings.

PE

We travelled around the hall at different speeds changing direction to avoid obstacles. The children then had to try to balance a cone on their heads and work with a partner while moving around the hall.

Number 3!

In maths this week we have been learning all about the number three. We represented the number three in a variety of different ways and everyone was able to find three items from around the classroom. Some children also spotted the number three in our environment.

Autumn 2 2025

Number Hunt

The children did a great job searching for hidden numbers. They were able to recognise numbers 1-5 represented in lots of different ways.

The First Christmas

This week, we have been learning about the Christmas story. The children have listened to the story, retold it and represented the special event through their drawings.

Letters to Father Christmas

The post box we had decorated went missing. We went on a search around school and found it in our nature garden. We then posted our letters to Father Christmas.

Spring 1 2026

Exploring ice

We had a great time exploring the ice this week. We talked about how it felt, that it was cold and slippery. We used warm water to melt the ice and watched what happened.

Life Skills

We explored different feelings this week. We explored 'Hippo time' and talked about it being okay to need some time out.

Positional language and direction

In maths this week, we have been focusing on positional language and describing a route. The children guided Mrs Bramer to the hall and up to the staff room by describing the route and naming the things we passed along the way.
