Black History Month 2019
Black History Month is a time set aside each year to celebrate the achievements of black men and women in the past and today. The whole school have been celebrating Black History Month by looking at significant black men and women. The whole school had an assembly to celebrate all the hard work. Thank you to all those who brought in home projects about Black History Month.
EYFS
Black History Month
We have been marking Black History Month in school during October.
EYFS have enjoyed learning about Black History month.
They have enjoyed creating African art and masks. Also some children have shared traditional African clothes and talked about their families.
LKS2
In year 3 and 4 they have been learning about Katherine Johnson. They learned about her life, her job at NASA and why she is so significant. The children have spent time researching facts about Katherine Johnson and wrote some biography's about her life.
KS1
Black History Month
We have been marking Black History Month in school during October.
Year 1 & 2 have enjoyed talking about Rosa Parks in detail.
We enjoyed staging our own 'Bus Boycott'.The children drew themselves in 1955 and made signs to share their messages of support. We had a great time and the children were very reflective about such a significant event in our history.
UKS2
In year 5 and 6 they have been learning about Benjamin Zephaniah. They learned about him, his heritage and how he grew up to become a poet. They enjoyed listening to his poems and then had a go at one of his poems themselves.
