Hour of Code 2019

Hour of Code is celebrated all over the world on the week 9th - 13th December.

Each class in KS1 and KS2 completed a coding activity, as part of Hour of Code, to promote Computer Science around the world. 

KS1

What did KS1 enjoy?

Year 1/2: Scratch JR
In Year 1/2 we tried a new app for coding: Scratch Junior. We designed a character, created a background and used code to move them around. 

"I enjoyed changing the background and adding animals because you can make it how you like it." - Jan   "I liked how you could control it and move it because it could do flips." - Joe   "I liked making a background and then making things invisible." - Xavier

Lower KS2

What did LKS2 think of this years Hour of Code?

"I really enjoyed it because it was really different." - Lena    "Thank you for lettings us learn new things about coding." - Skylar    "I thought it was fun and we got to play with letters and numbers to create python code." - Autumn   "I really enjoyed doing a different coding than we normally do." - Amelia

Year 3/4: Python

This year for Hour of Code, Year 3/4 were introduced to the coding language of Python. We really enjoyed this. 

Upper KS2

Year 5/6: Python

This year in Year 5/6 for our Hour of Code Activity, we were introduced to the coding language of Python. The activities seemed very simple at first, but soon we were creating some very tricky python codes!

What did UKS2 think about this years Hour of Code? 

"I learned 'Python coding' which is what people use to make apps like Google. We accomplished writing sentences and doing maths sums using python code!" - Miriette   "It was a very experimental activity, I liked following the instructions." - Samuel   "It was fantastic, brilliant and so much fun!" - Katie
