Autumn One

We have loved seeing everyone back in school looking super smart in their uniforms after the summer break.

Click here for the Autumn One Curriculum Overview including the essential knowledge questions for this half term.

Geography

Our Country

We have been naming and locating the four different countries of the United Kingdom and the surrounding seas. The children had to name, locate and identify the capital city for each one.

Art

Sculpture

The children had to investigate how rolling paper can create 3D structures, then they designed a simple sculpture using paper cylinders. We moved onto manipulate paper to create a desired effect, such as folding, twisting, rolling, etc to create a 3D structure.  We used these different techniques to replicate the 'Tree of Life' created by Marco Balich.

Computing

Online Safety

We learnt about what the internet is and how it can be used.  We recognised the internet may affect your mood or emotions and how it can upset others. We then identified which information is appropriate to share and post online and which is not.

Science

Materials

We have been exploring different materials and learning about their properties. The children have taken part in a variety of experiments to gain a better understanding about why certain materials are chosen for certain things.

Music

Keeping the pulse

Children had to clap the rhythm of their names in time with the pulse, sway or tap along to the beat, and sing rhythms in sync with the pulse. The children copied rhythms based on word patterns using instruments, kept a steady pulse whilst playing, and followed instructions during their performances.

Religion

Creation and Covenant

The children have encountered Bible texts where God creates and calls people.  They are exploring the belief that everything come from God through texts of the Book of Genesis and develop reflective thoughts of the Psalms.  They have heard accounts of God's love for people expressed in the covenants (promises) found in the Old Testament.

Autumn Two

History

Nurturing Nurses

The children have been learning about nurses from the past and why the were significant. The children found out that Florence Nightingale was called the ‘Lady of the Lamp’ and Minnie Wood worked at Salford Royal Hospital and there is a building named after her, They also learnt about Edith Cavell and Mary Seacole. The children then added the nurses to our chronology box.

R.E.

Promise and Prophecy

We have been looking into ‘The Annunciation’ and how Mary felt.  We learnt about Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth who was also having a miracle baby. Finally, we focused on ‘The Christmas Story’ and how this is celebrated.

Computing

Digital Imagery

The children planned a pictorial story using photographic images in sequence.  They learnt how to take clear photos using a device.  Then edited the photos by cropping, filtering and resizing.  Later on, they searched for and imported images from the internet.

Remembrance Day

Our first class mass of the year, was ‘Remembrance.’ The children were amazing in church and very respectful. We held our two minute silence in class and remembered those who fought for us.

Advent Stations

This year the Gift Team and Mrs Brookes held our usual Advent Stations in Church.  The Gift Team lead prayer and reflection activities and the children were very respectful.

Science

Materials

We have been looking at the properties of materials to work out which would be the best to build a boat.  They worked in groups to design their own boat and listed all the materials that this soul be made out of. The children then creating their boats in groups using different materials.  We tested the boats to see if they were waterproof and successfully floated on the water.

Music

Keeping the pulse

The children explored keeping the pulse together through music and movement by exploring their favourite things. They clapped the rhythm of their name in time to the pulse. The children then copied rhythms based on word patterns using instruments.
