Remember you can change your reading book every day! Show your reading record to your teacher in a morning when you come in.

Our Trip to Formby Beach

We had a wonderful time exploring the woodland and 4 different habitats at Formby. We found lots of different living things in their habitats. We even spotted some red squirrels hiding in the trees! What a fantastic day!

Art Day

We had a wonderful time on Art Day in Year 1 and 2. We studied the artist Henri Matisse and his work. In the morning we learnt all about his life, how he became an artist and tried out some of our art skills. In the afternoon we used our cutting skills to create work in the style of Henri Matisse by 'painting with scissors'. Have a look at our photos from the day!

Computing

This half term we have been doing 'computing' in Key Stage 1. We have been learning all about coding and practising making objects move by writing codes. We are all really enjoying learning new skills on the iPads and laptops.

Stations of the Cross

This afternoon we enjoyed reflecting in our class teams whilst moving around the Stations of the Cross. Year 3 and 4 did a beautiful job of re-enacting all of the stations.

'Stay with us Lord on our journey.'

Design & Technology

We are working on 'textiles' as our new Design & Technology. We have explored different types of fabrics and we described them to each other. Then we designed new hairstyles for ourselves using wool. We have now explored different face shapes and used mirrors and a template to draw our own faces. We used our cutting skills to cut out our template and our fabric face outline.

Chinese Dance Workshop

This week we all took part in a Chinese Dance Workshop. Each class learnt a Chinese dance and then we performed it for everyone at the end of the day. Watch our video to see how brilliant we were!

Sports Day

We finally managed to get some lovely weather for our Sports Day! We had a fantastic time and we were all superstars!

Thank you to everyone who came to cheer us on. Here is a video to show you the best bits of the afternoon. :)

Design & Technology

This week we have completed our 'textiles' unit and created our Fabric Faces. We used different materials to create our faces and different skills such as cutting, joining, gluing and stitching!

English

What amazing writers we are!

Over the past two weeks we have been enjoying the story 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. We have been working hard exploring all the problems the crayons faced and now we have written our reply letters to the crayons.

World Book Day

On Thursday 2nd March we celebrated 'World Book Day'. We spent the day doing lots of activities about books and we had a cosy read in our classrooms at the end of the day. We created sock puppets of our favourite book characters. Have a look at some of our pictures to see our wonderful costumes.

Design & Technology - Food

Last week we continued our Design & Technology food topic. We linked it to our topic of China and created a 'Fruit Tea'. We used cutting and chopping skills before letting the tea heat up in the urn. We all got to try some at home time.

Year 2 SATs Briefing

Thank you to those of you who managed to attend one of the Y2 SATs briefings. We hope you found them helpful. As promised, here is a copy of the presentation. If you have any questions or worries please ask one of us. We are more than happy to help you in any way that we can. If you missed the briefings and want to know more just say and we will make some time to talk through everything with you.

This half term we have been exploring the text 'You Must Bring A Hat'. In the story Nigel sent everyone an invite to his party telling them they are welcome to come....if they bring a hat! This week we have designed and made our own hats for the party. Then we did a hat parade! We had lots of fun. :)

E-safety

As part of E-Safety day we talked in class about how to stay safe online. We looked at different top tips about how to make sure we are all keeping ourselves safe. We know it is important to always tell a grown up.

This week we began our Design & Technology topic which is focusing on Food. As our Geography topic is all about China we have decided to look at and make different Chinese foods. This week we made 'Hot Banana in Coconut Milk'. We followed the recipe and used our cutting, chopping and mixing skills. Then we all tried it at the end of the day. Yum!

Exciting news in Year 1 & 2!
